About Me

Thanks for dropping by Cavities & Cravings!

My name is Laura, I started Cavities & Cravings in 2011 (holy moly, time flies!) so I could share my passion for baking and at the same time, encourage myself to branch out and try new recipes in the kitchen.  Over the years I can see myself improving and I no longer find joy in only baking, but also in cooking! While my recipes aren’t always a success, it’s an incredibly satisfying feeling to be creative in the kitchen and to produce delicious meals.  Most of the recipes I share are not culinary genius; I like sharing quick and easy recipes, lets be real… how many of us seriously have time to cook extravagant meals on the reg?

So what’s with the cavities?

In May of 2014, I graduated from dental school from The Ohio State University (sorry, I had to include “the,” I cant help myself).  Oh dental school, I do not miss thee.  It was a long road and at the end of the road, I thought to myself “Hey! Why not spend two more years specializing in pediatric dentistry?”  And here I am today, I am a second year pediatric dental resident at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.  Best. Decision. I. Ever. Made.  I mean sometimes, the kids win (kids-1, Laura-0), but most days I love what I do.  I love the kiddos and the people I work with.   Not to mention, I have the best stories because kids on laughing gas say hilarious things.

Beyond sharing recipes, I am will sure you will read plenty of randomness from my life.

Meet the members of my little family:

Meet Mina, my hubby! We got married in July of 2008… whoa! I think we are officially an old married couple.  Obvi you’ll be hearing a lot about him because he is pretty awesome if you ask me. He shares the same love for food as me and thankfully doesn’t mind being the the guinea pig for all my new recipes!

Meet Diesel (aka pumpkin), our lab mix.  He’s seven years old and all trouble.  We rescued him when he was was only 10 weeks old and could fit perfectly in to my lap. When I say he was a crazy puppy, I mean crazzzzyyyyy.  His favorite thing in the entire world is playing fetch. Thankfully, he has calmed down a bit over the years; although occasionally he still makes poor decisions (ex – eating the remote control for attention, oops.  He didn’t mean to).  Seriously though, look at this stud muffin, how could you not love him?

Finally, meet Leo (aka my love). Leo is a King Charles Cavalier and he is a little cuddle bug. I fell in love with him while I was studying for part one of my dental boards.  To cheer myself up after a full day of studying, I’d go to the pet store and play with him. This happened every single day for two straight weeks, I wish I was making this up.  By the end of the 2 weeks everyone at the pet store was sick of seeing me… and let’s be honest I couldn’t stand leaving him there all caged up for another day.  It was love at first sight, duh.

  1. Yes I can well imagine that he adores your baking and I always like the baking aroma around the house, it is rather nice don’t you think? 🙂 I wonder how long your creative baking lasts? I doubt that your husband can resist them, I know that I would be straight in there for a peep and maybe even a quick sample…

By the way, this is an excellent introduction my friend and I wish you both, correction all three of you a wondrously nice start to your weekend 🙂

  3. Hi, I tried the Mini Nutella Cups recipe, when adding the dry ingredients (flour, salt, baking soda), shall I use the machine or by spoon?

  4. LOVE the name of your blog. So catchy and creative – especially since you’re in dental school. I’m glad I stumbled upon your blog. My boyfriend is a HUGE OSU fan (he’s from Cleveland). I look forward to reading more of your posts!
